Wickenburg, Arizona is situated on Highway 60 approximately 58 miles northwest of Phoenix. It is a small town whose 2004 population, according to the Arizona Department of Commerce, was 5,970. Many more folks call Wickenburg home while residing in the rural areas just outside the town limits. Rich in Western heritage, Wickenburg is a popular destination for those looking for a small town life style that is close to big city conveniences, but where horses still have the right of way. Wickenburg sits in the foothills of the Bradshaw Mountains so the terrain is mostly hilly and rocky. Mountain views surround the town with the Weaver and the Bradshaw Mountains to the north and the Vulture Mountains with the imposing Vulture Peak to the south.

Wickenburg was founded in 1863, when Henry Wickenburg discovered gold at the Vulture Mine, and was incorporated in 1909. The town proper is in Maricopa County with Phoenix as its county seat but the Yavapai County line lies just outside the town limits to the north with Prescott as its county seat. Wickenburg has a City Police Department and a Volunteer Fire Department. There is a community center, three public parks, a library, two golf courses, a nature preserve, a public swimming pool, and a rodeo arena. The Desert Caballeros western museum and the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts are superior facilities and draw visitors from the surrounding towns. There are clubs and groups of all types from the "Friends of Music" to the "Wickenburg Horseman's Association."

Wickenburg has a Community Hospital complete with a gym, as well as several treatment centers and medical clinics. There are public elementary, middle and high schools and two private schools. There is also a Municipal Airport with a paved and lighted 5000+ foot runway and paved parking, hangars, fuel (regular/jet), repair services and UNICOM radio. Several Hotel and lodging facilities are located in the town. The town newspaper is The Wickenburg Sun and is published weekly on Wednesdays.

The average daytime temperatures range from 103.6 in July to 64.5 in January. Average annual rainfall is 11.23 inches.
